What is GPS?
GPS (Global Positioning Systems) allow you
to easily determine where you are,
practically anywhere on the planet. A
collection of 24 satellites orbit the Earth,
allowing people with portable navigation
devices, in-car navigation systems or
specially equipped cell phones to pinpoint
their geographic location on a map. GPS
enabled navigation systems come pre-loaded
with full color, easy-to-read maps that can
help you find your way around. Points of
interest are also often included, to help
you find places like restaurants, gas
stations, landmarks and more-wherever you
are, or wherever you're going.
What are the benefits of a navigation
system?
GPS navigation systems do more than just
keep you from getting lost. Just start your
system and you're ready to drive, bike, or
walk around in your own city, across the
country or even around the world, with maps
and turn-by-turn directions. You'll never
need to buy a paper map or print one from
the Internet again. There's no need to stop
and ask for directions, either. The points
of interest included with a navigation
system can help you find the best
restaurants at home and on the road, or can
help you find your way around a business or
vacation destination. Using your system is
fun, and can save a lot of time, money, and
frustration as you save on gas with the most
direct or fastest route, relaxing as your
system guides you there.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. Once you purchase your system - you're
all set. There are no monthly fees for maps,
directions, or points of interest. However,
there are some extra services - such as
traffic subscriptions - that may require a
fee.
How do I use my system?
Simply switch on and follow the prompts to
enter a city, address, intersection,
business type or business name destination.
Navigation systems are pre-loaded with maps
and everything you need to get started is
included, so they're easy to use right out
of the box.
How does my system tell me where to go?
In addition to visually showing your route
on screen, most systems offer voice
guidance. Turn-by-turn voice directions
guide you where you want to go, and even
tell you how far before the next turn, so
you can keep your eyes on the road.
What happens if I miss a turn?
Don't worry. If you go past your exit or
miss a crucial turn, your system will
recalculate your route and adjust directions
accordingly to keep you on track.
How accurate are these systems?
Your system and the satellites linked to it
will constantly recalculate your position to
ensure accuracy-usually within 40 or 50
feet.
Can I update my maps?
Absolutely. And it's a good idea. Each year,
traffic situations change an average of 20%.
Turn restrictions are added, throughways
become closed to non-commercial vehicles,
and new parking lots, hotels, and other
facilities are built. Updates to the maps on
your navigation products are important to
ensure that you have the freshest, most
relevant travel information possible.
Depending on your system, you can either
update maps with updated map discs, or by
downloading new maps into your system's
built-in memory.
What is a POI?
POI stands for Point of Interest. POIs can
be restaurants, gas stations, airports,
hotels, tourist attractions or any number of
places or facilities you may want to find.
Your system comes loaded with a wide range
of business and leisure POI destination
names and addresses, usually sorted by
category, location and name, so that if
you're looking for a specific kind of
cuisine, or know the exact museum name, or
just want to find any gas station, you'll be
able to choose what you need.
PRECISE
GPS, which stands for Global Positioning
System, is a means of technology that allows
you to determine your exact longitude,
latitude and elevation. GPS is designed and
operated by the U.S. Department of Defense
(DOD). Coded signals from three or more
satellites are processed by your GPS every
second to calculate your location within 40
to 50 feet. By comparing that data with map
information, your GPS is able to calculate
the best route to your destination.
CONVENIENT
Most GPS devices come preloaded with maps of
the U.S. and Canada, and extra storage room
allowing for additional maps to be
downloaded. Imagine being able to instantly
locate specific places like tourist
attractions, restaurants, hotels, banks, gas
stations and much more. With all the maps
you'll ever need at your fingertips, you'll
never need to buy or print a map again. No
more asking for directions or missing an
appointment because you got turned around.
EASY-TO-USE
Highly intuitive touch controls on a
brightly colored monitor make GPS extremely
user-friendly. To find a new route, begin by
entering your destination in the form of an
address, city, intersection or name of
business. Voice prompts give you
turn-by-turn guidance and tell you how far
you need to go before the next turn, so you
can keep your eyes on the road. A high-speed
processor automatically recalculates the
route when you miss a turn to keep you
headed in the right direction.
